Kaimai
Cycles was established in 1998 by Rex Thorley
and Jill Law.
The business grew quickly and was relocated to its current
location in 2001.
Rex’ background was as an A-grade motorcycle mechanic.
It was while as an apprentice that his employer introduced
him to the sport of cycling.
After buying a $70 bike at the local bike shop and having
a few rides he was hooked on the sport.
The shop has a fulltime staff of 3 consisting of Rex
and Jill and also Mark May.
Mark joined the team in 1999 and has been involved with
bikes since he was 8 years old (a long time). He has
represented N.Z as a road cyclist and also as a bike
mechanic. Mark is the son of local Morrinsville Wheelers
stalwarts Bev and Dave May.
Jill is our womans social cycling expert and is only
to happy to help woman get over there phobias of Lycra,
Seats, Clip in Pedals and the dreaded puncture. Jill
also organizes a local womans riding group on wednesday
afternoons.
Rex is an active masters road cyclist and mountain biker
and is the main drive behind the Kaimai Mountainbike
Club.
Kaimai Cycles is the proud sponsor and patron of the
Morrinsville
Wheelers Cycling Club, Thames Duathlon Club
and Matamata Peddlers Cycling Club.
We are a specialist cycling store dedicated to providing
the best possible service to all types of cyclists from
